3DATA OFFICE ODESSKAYA
2020 Moscow
The new office for 3data — the first company in Russia to introduce the “walking-distance data center” concept — addresses the challenge of creating a functional and comfortable environment for a growing team within a compact 240 m² space.
Architectural Task
The architects were tasked with organizing a small footprint as efficiently as possible while delivering a flexible and engaging workspace without complex or expensive solutions.
Spatial Strategy
High ceilings and panoramic glazing enabled the designers to activate the vertical dimension and integrate a mezzanine level, significantly expanding the functional area.
A compact block along the solid wall accommodates the main meeting room, the executive office, and a cloakroom. The primary workspace is arranged as an open-plan zone along the windows, ensuring abundant natural light throughout the day.
The mezzanine hosts an open meeting area, several flexible workstations, and a kitchen, while the server room and restrooms are placed beneath the structure.
Custom Work Modules
A defining element of the project is the acoustically and visually sheltered plywood work module, developed specifically for this office.
Although an open-plan layout was necessary due to the limited area, the team noted difficulties concentrating in a fully open environment. The module became a compromise between openness and privacy: designed for two people, it can be arranged either face-to-face or back-to-back, forming a flexible and comfortable work landscape.
Design Concept
The interior is defined by a monochromatic white palette. Expressiveness is achieved through the interplay of textures and warm plywood accents in the custom furniture. Clean lines, minimal visual noise, and generous natural light create a sense of expanded volume and highlight the minimalist aesthetic.
Materials and Fabrication
All major furniture pieces — including the reception desk, workstations, and shelving — were custom-built according to the architects’ drawings.
Another bespoke element is the mezzanine railing made of 30×30 mm steel angle and perforated metal mesh, fabricated on-site by the contractors.
The use of simple finishes and cost-efficient manufacturers allowed the team to keep the project within budget without compromising architectural quality.
